Vietnam Pushes E10 Nationwide from June
Vietnam officially rolled out E10 gasoline nationwide from June 1, replacing conventional RON95 across the retail network.
The change may look technical, but the impact is more meaningful than it first appears. As E10 contains 10% ethanol, every liter sold effectively reduces fossil gasoline demand by around 10%. On a nationwide scale, that is a material reduction in gasoline dependence, especially at a time when oil flows remain vulnerable to disruption from the Middle East.
Initial concerns over vehicle compatibility also appear manageable. Automakers have confirmed that most modern cars and motorcycles in Vietnam can use E10, with only minor caveats for older models and selected carburetor-equipped motorcycles.
This matters because Vietnam’s earlier E5 rollout faced years of weak consumer confidence and uneven adoption. The nationwide E10 launch shows better coordination, clearer execution, and faster policy implementation.
It is not a game changer overnight, but it is a useful signal: Vietnam is becoming more practical and flexible in executing policy amid a more uncertain global environment.
