Vietnam’s Strategic Diplomacy: Strengthening Global Partnerships

At a time when discussions on universal tariffs and rising geopolitical tensions dominate global discourse, Vietnam is charting a different course. In early 2025, Vietnam elevated its relations with New Zealand, Indonesia, and Singapore to Comprehensive Strategic Partnerships (CSP)—the highest diplomatic tier. With these additions, Vietnam now holds CSP status with 12 countries, reinforcing its commitment to being a trusted partner and a reliable friend on the global stage.

Over the past decade, Vietnam’s bilateral relationships with its newly upgraded partners have seen remarkable growth in trade and investment:

🔹 Vietnam – New Zealand: Two-way trade surged 63%, making Vietnam New Zealand’s 14th largest trading partner.
🔹 Vietnam – Indonesia: Total trade expanded 114%, and Vietnam became Indonesia’s first strategic partner in ASEAN.
🔹 Vietnam – Singapore: Singapore’s total FDI into Vietnam surpassed $54 billion, accounting for 20% of Vietnam’s total FDI.

These latest upgrades highlight Vietnam’s proactive approach to global economic integration. In just the past three years, Vietnam has strengthened partnerships with Malaysia, France, Australia, Japan, the US, and South Korea, while securing new FTAs with Israel and the UAE, bringing its total to 17 free trade agreements.

By expanding its global network, Vietnam enhances economic resilience, diversifies trade flows, and strengthens its position in an evolving global landscape.
