Vietnam to introduce free annual health check-ups from 2026

Under the newly passed Law on Disease Prevention, all Vietnamese citizens will be entitled to a free periodic health check-up or screening at least once a year starting 1 July 2026, delivered based on priority groups and a clear implementation roadmap.

Key highlights:

  • Free annual check-ups or screenings — marking a structural shift toward preventive healthcare
  • Funded through health insurance contributions and state budget allocations
  • Aimed at reducing long-term healthcare costs through early detection and prevention

Overall, this is a landmark move that places preventive care at the centre of Vietnam’s public health strategy — strengthening social welfare while supporting a more sustainable healthcare system.

This policy also reflects a broader direction in public finance, where improved budget collection is being redirected toward social welfare priorities, including healthcare and education.
